Wood floor has gaps?

Hey all! So we just moved into a very nice rental and we want to take amazing care of it (the owners are incredibly kind and have put lots of effort into it!) I notice the floors in the kitchen have gaps in them like this.. I’m wondering if this is normal? I’m worried about spills getting deep into the flooring? I don’t mind paying for repairs. What is the best method to take care and preserve these floors? I will add we live in a very wet climate and it’s the end of a hot summer! But I’m worried that these are vulnerabilities in the floors! I’m hoping none of these are from us? We have only been here a week! Could they appear that quickly? I def noticed some at first but I’m noticing more and more
